Board of Directors
David Batker, Founder and Executive Director - David Batker is the Founder and Executive Director of Earth Economics. He completed his graduate training in economics under Herman Daly, one of the world's foremost ecological economists. Dave has taught in the Training Department of the World Bank, and has worked for Greenpeace International, specializing in trade and international finance. He also worked for two years with the Rural Reconstruction Movement, a Philippine non-profit group dedicated to ecologically sound community-based development. David's responsibilities as a member of the Board of Directors are focused primarily on fundraising, outreach, public relations, administration, budgetary management, strategic planning and board development.
 
Joshua Farley, Founding Member of the Board of Directors - Josh is an ecological economist, Assistant Professor of both Community Development and Applied Economics and of Public Administration. He is also a fellow of the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics (GIEE) at the University of Vermont. His interdisciplinary academic background includes a B.S. in biology from Grinnell College, a M.I.A in International Affairs from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural, Resource and Managerial Economics from Cornell University. Josh was previously Program Director at the School for Field Studies' Centre for Rainforest Studies in tropical Australia and Executive Director of the University of Maryland's Institute for Ecological Economics. Josh's responsibilities as a member of the Board of Directors are focused primarily on ensuring adherence to the organization's mission as well as administration and strategic planning.
 
Joshua Reyneveld, Founding Chair of the Board of Directors - Josh's contribution to Earth Economics can be traced back to 1996, to its original inception in Seattle, when he served as organizational advisor and co-founder. Since this time he has executed several projects for Earth Economics, as a volunteer. Josh is an accomplished architect, engineer and planner with over 25 years of consulting experience as Project Director of significant planning and design projects, up to $180 million in scale, and as Managing Principal of regionally-recognized design firms. He also has considerable expertise advocating for, and successfully executing, projects which utilize soft energy strategies and enhance ecological sustainability. Currently serving as Board Chair, Josh's responsibilities are focused on coordination of Board activities, budgetary oversight and public relations as well as general assistance to the Executive Director and principal staff members with strategic planning, project management and general counsel.
 
Ingrid Rasch, Founding Member of the Board of Directors - Ingrid has served since 2004 as Vice President Human Resources of Sonus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company near Seattle focused on developing oncological pharmaceuticals. Ingrid has over 20 years of experience in human resources management and corporate strategy in a variety of industries and institutions. Most recently, she was Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., a $10 billion leading grocery retailer. She also established the human resources department at Microsoft Corporation in 1984. In early 2005 she worked at EPEA headquarters in Hamburg, Germany with Michael Braungart and his team of scientists and consultants to learn more first-hand about the "cradle-to-cradle" process. In addition to her work with for-profit companies, Ingrid is an active volunteer in the not-for-profit sector. Most recently she joined the Board of Earth Economics, serves as the Chairperson of Social Venture Partners Environmental Grant Committee, and is a member of the Puget Sound Regional Council Life Sciences Skills Panel.
 
John (Jack) Santa-Barbara, Founding Member of the Board of Directors -
Jack is the Director of The Sustainable Scale Project, which he founded in 2002. The mission of this NGO is to integrate the sustainable scale concept, and its implications, into the policies and operations of relevant governmental, business and international bodies. The current priority for this project is the development of a sustainable and equitable energy future. Jack lectures in both public and academic forums on sustainability and energy issues, as well as on sustainable business practices. Trained as an experimental social psychologist (PhD, Mc Master University, 1971), Jack has had successful careers as an academic, researcher, consultant and entrepreneur, prior to devoting his full time efforts, since 2000, to sustainable scale. Previously, he served as the CEO of the company he founded in 1980, which grew to become the largest behavioral health company in Canada. He is also an Associate of the Centre for Peace Studies at Mc Master University, and a Member of Transcend, an International Peace and Development Network. Jack's role as a Board member involves contributing to the strategic plan and its implementation.
